House of the Dragon season 2 cast adds Simon Strong, Gwayne Hightower

house of the dragon episodes

The only thing we can’t promise is that your favorites will make it to the end of the season. When you play the game of thrones, after all, you win or you die. And with the series already renewed for Season 2, no one is winning outright anytime soon. The first season received highly positive reviews, with praise towards its character development, visual effects, writing, score by Ramin Djawadi, and performances.

Special 3 The House That Dragons Built S1 E3

Before George R.R. Martin’s Westeros endured the Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conquerer set up his House of Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Now, HBO is gearing up to show us the mayhem that happened when this house splintered into two sides that each claimed the Iron Throne. In one corner, Rhaenyra Targaryen had been named rightful heir by her father. On the other side, Aegon Targaryen II had been erroneously elevated to king after his wife, Alicent Hightower, mistakenly interpreted King Viserys’ deathbed ramblings.

Special 7 The House That Dragons Built S1 E7

The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season. Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season. The second season is set to premiere on June 16, 2024, consisting of 8 episodes. Sure, Game of Thrones often took long breaks between seasons. But that was well into the series' run when viewers knew the characters much better than the House of the Dragon cast.

Special 26 Noble Houses

However, the pacing, specifically of the time jumps, and the dark lighting of some scenes were criticized. The series premiere was watched by over 10 million viewers across the linear channels and HBO Max on the first day, the biggest in HBO's history. At the 80th Golden Globe Awards, House of the Dragon won Best Television Series – Drama and D'Arcy was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The series earned nine Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and won three British Academy Television Craft Awards. So we've prepared a guide to every episode in season 1, including their titles and our reviews of each to help you navigate this. House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom.

"[Rhaenyra's] children ... are ... bastards," Vaemond says. Just last week we saw her entreat Corlys to have Driftmark pass directly to Baela and not Laenor, because she knows full well that Jace and Luke are not Laenor's sons. But Corlys refused her request, so, dutiful wife that she is, she publicly announces her husband's wish that Luke inherit Driftmark. She also announces (equally publicly, because she's no fool) that Rhaenyra has offered to marry Jace and Luke to Baela and Rhaena. And asks Rhaenys, Corlys' wife, to speak, as she's likeliest to know his wishes.

09 The Green Council

King Jaehaerys reigned over nearly 60 years of peace and prosperity but tragedy had claimed both his sons Leaving his succession in doubt. So, in the year 101 The Old King called a Great Council to choose an heir. Fourteen succession claims were heard But only two were truly considered. Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the King's eldest descendant and her younger cousin, Prince Viserys Targaryen The King's eldest male descendant. It is declared by all lords paramount and lords vassal of the Seven Kingdoms That Prince Viserys Targaryen be made Prince of Dragons tone! Jaehaerys called the Great Council To prevent a war being fought over his succession.

Without getting into spoilers, the presence of Simon Strong and Alys Rivers, in particular, point to a sequence of events from the source material that unfolds at Harrenhal. There's a reason Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) made mention of Harrenhal when poring over the painted table at Queen Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) war council in the season 1 finale. First, Daemon must zoom around Westeros to gather as many houses as possible for that fight. I suspect that the strategy set-up will take up much of this second season, but unlike with the book, Rhaenyra might even leave Dragonstone to participate. And we will literally see fire rain down from the sky when the two sides have to force allegiance from reluctant settlements. Viserys hosts a tournament to celebrate the birth of his second child.

Special 29 Introducing the Characters: Rhaenyra & Alicent

After a three-year hiatus, we're back to Westeros for an all-new prequel series set in the world of Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon brings viewers back to the reign of House Targaryen, 200 years before the events of the original series, when King Viserys Targaryen ruled over the Seven Kingdoms with the help of 17 dragons. Catch exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew breaking down the series' biggest moments and the process behind creating its memorable sets. As the first century of the Targaryen dynasty came to a close The health of the Old King, Jaehaerys, was failing. In those days, House Targaryen stood at the height of its strength with ten adult dragons under its yoke.

Cast and characters

Viserys and Rhaenyra broker agreements with the Valeryons. Creator and executive producer George R.R. Martin sets up the Game of Thrones prequel, sharing key details on major Houses and relationships featured in the series, alongside illustrations from Fire & Blood artist Doug Wheatley. The cast and crew share the thrills and challenges of entering the world Game of Thrones, and approaching it when the Targaryens at the height of their power. Alicent tends to the ailing, no but for real this time seriously ailing, Viserys. In a milk-0f-the-poppy haze, the king believes himself to be continuing a conversation he began earlier with Rhaenyra. He talks of Aegon the Conqueror, and the dagger, and the prophecy of The Prince That Was Promised.

We've seen this guy crop up before — you might remember him fawning over Rhaenyra as she trudged up the staircase to present Joffrey to the king and queen back in episode six. House of the Dragon will tell a more focused tale than Game of Thrones— one less concerned with the world politics of Westeros and more on the conflict within the Targaryen family, including the all-important matter of succession. Get to know the key players, events, and timeline leading up to the Game of Thrones prequel. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, this epic series tells the story of House Targaryen. Otto gathers the great houses of Westeros to affirm their allegiance. Based on Fire and Blood, a George R.R. Martin book published during the tail end of Game of Thrones' run, House of the Dragon mainly concerns palace intrigue involving the Targaryen family.

There are a few reasons for skepticism about House of the Dragon in its second season. Once again, the show was popular enough to gain another season but did not appear to capture the zeitgeist as the original series did throughout its run. However, the fantasy genre was untested at the time as a source for prestige TV. The show was expensive to produce, featured a large cast, and had complex storytelling, and that's to say nothing of the child endangerment and incest. House of the Dragon is set to return for a second season, with the premiere scheduled for June 16 on HBO and Max.

On the one hand, she believes Daemon and Rhaenyra killed her son Laenor, yet she's also accepted Daemon's daughter Baela as her ward. Corlys' younger brother Vaemond knows that Corlys wants Driftmark to pass through his son Laenor and his wife Rhaenyra to their second son, Luke (their oldest son Jace is still officially the heir to the Iron Throne, remember). But Vaemond also knows that since Luke is not a true Velaryon but instead a "pup of House Strong," this would effectively end the Velaryon bloodline. He insists that he himself should inherit the Driftwood Throne instead, and feels strongly that the Queen will agree with him. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set during the reign of the Targaryens, 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Jace and Luke visit the courtyard they used to train in. Luke immediately notices that everyone's looking at them, because unlike just about everyone in his family he possesses basic emotional intelligence. They are met by six-years-older Aemond One-Eye, with his eyepatch, his attitude, and his prodigious fighting skills. We also glimpse an Erryk/Arryk sparring match, and a slightly older, but no less insufferable, Ser Criston Cole. Daemon, Rhaenyra, Jace, Luke, Joffrey and the two kids Daemon and Rhaenyra have had during the 6-year-gap (more on them later) arrive at the Red Keep, but there's no one there to greet them, except for one Lord Caswell.

The only thing that could tear down the House of the Dragon was itself. That made it HBO's most-watched season finale since the series finale of Game of Thrones in 2019. But that finale drew 19.8 million viewers, more than twice the audience of the House of the Dragon finale. Viserys is urged to secure the succession through marriage. With that said, this series has been plotted out for four seasons, and that plan could change, but it’s unlikely that we will see the entire war take place in Season 2. Hopefully, we will at least see the inevitable showdown between Daemon and (Mini-Me) Aemond, and if that plot point follows the Fire and Blood book, both men should be very afraid.

Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, and more cast and crew discuss how House of the Dragon takes place during the height of the Targaryen reign over Westeros, and how that influenced the story and design of the series. A behind-the-scenes look at the logistics, set design, and special effects used in the series premiere of House of the Dragon. Be sure to check back throughout the season as new information is revealed. Yes, the series is a prequel with Ryan J. Condal (Rampage and Hercules) and Miguel Sapohnik (whom you may remember from Game of Thrones favorite episodes “Battle of the Bastards,”“Hardhome,” and more) at the helm. Author George R.R. Martin is also actively involved as an executive producer.

The show is set hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones but takes place hundreds of years before the events of that show. Sign up for Entertainment Weekly's free daily newsletter to get breaking TV news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more. Series co-creator Ryan Condal, a co-showrunner on season 1 with Miguel Sapochnik, is now the sole showrunner on season 2. Co-creator George R.R. Martin also executive produces House of the Dragon with Condal, Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis. Cast and crew, including Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra) and Matt Smith (Daemon), examine how Rhaenyra’s lies are starting to catch up with her, and the slow unraveling of Daemon’s marriage while living in Pentos. Ryan Condal, director Clare Kilner, Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Emily Carey (Alicent Hightower) and more dive into Rhaenyra and Laenor's marriage arrangement, and where Alicent's allegiances lie.

Weirwood? There, wood. There, castle.

Daemon announces his intentions.Rhaenyra oversteps at the Small Council. If you watched Game of Thrones you of course remember the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen, and her quest to take back the Iron Throne. From that period, House of the Dragon brings us back nearly 200 years to the time in Westerosi history when House Targaryen was at the height of its power. The series begins with the reign of King Viserys I, the fifth Targaryen ruler, the question of his succession, and the events that unfold after he names his daughter, Rhaenyra, heir — a title a woman had never assumed.

'House of the Dragon' episode 8: A family dinner becomes a last supper

During its run, House of the Dragon episodes were released on Sundays in the US and Mondays in the UK. However, they're now all available to stream on both platforms in full. We then get a brief interlude wherein the practiced familial politesse seems to drop, and starts to shade into something more real. For a fleeting moment, we get glimpse of what House of the Dragon would look like if these characters actually loved each other like a family should. Viserys stands — sort of — and makes an emotional entreaty to his family to get along, for his sake. He removes the golden half-mask to reveal an empty eye socket (we do not get a shot of Aemond One-Eye going "Twinsies!" though we really should have) and a jaw from which the flesh has stripped away, exposing tendon and ligaments.

The Rogue Prince

When it's Rhaenyra's turn, she barely starts speaking when the grim figure of King Viserys enters the hall and hobbles to the Iron Throne, half his face hidden behind a golden mask. Considine really sells Viserys's agony as he stumbles on the Iron Throne steps, only to be helped up by Daemon. Vaemond steps up and lays out his case, artfully avoiding making any overt accusations as to the legitimacy of Jace and Luke as true Velaryons, instead focusing on his own status as Corlys' closest kin. If Rhaenys will side with her, Rhaenyra offers to marry her sons, Jace the future king and Luke the future Lord of Driftmark, to Rhaenys' granddaughters Baela and Rhaena, respectively.

Alicent, however, believes him to be talking about their son, Aegon the Aess. Rhaenyra goes to the bedridden Viserys and tearfully asks him to defend her against Vaemond. He seems too out of it to comply, but the next morning, as the maesters are poking and palpating and lancing and leeching his emaciated frame, he tells Otto that he wants to dine with his entire family that evening. Daemon and Rhaenyra worry about Vaemond's petition to the Iron Throne, and wonder if Rhaenys will back him, because her true allegiance is a mystery.

Viserys and Rhaenyra broker agreements with the Velaryons. We shall also meet an endless stream of new character including Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), a mysterious healer from Harrenhal, who plays a pivotal role in the book. Millie Alcock and the rest of the first-generation Targaryens and Hightowers will, as far as HBO has indicated, not be returning this season in flashbacks. That doesn’t mean that we won’t see them again someday, but at least Paddy Considine does not have to jeopardize his own health for another stunning performance that the awards circuit decides to ignore. Obviously, the show will continue to track the Targaryen lineage about 300 years prior to near-extinction level on Game of Thrones. So, we’ll see the “Dance of the Dragons,” so nicknamed by the civilians of Westeros, take place with mass casualties as a result.

Rhaenyra welcomes her uncle Daemon back to the Red Keep. The question of how much House of the Dragon's popularity is affected by its long layoff will be answered this summer when the series returns for its eight-episode second season. During this Targaryen Civil War, George R.R. Martin killed off half the population of Westeros and, as noted previously, nearly every member of the blondest family. However, the HBO series has already tweaked parts of the book, so there’s no reason to believe that everything will go down as Martin wrote in the lore. Queen Alicent and Otto Hightower will definitely begin to see consequences of their long game, and Rhaenyra will be coming for the Iron Throne with Blood and Cheese (wait for them, oh boy) paving the way. The cast and crew describe the various changes made to recognizable sets like the Red Keep and the Throne to reflect the decadence of the time period and how they evolved over time.

07 Driftmark

house of the dragon episodes

With George R.R. Martin having written so many ancillary books about the Thrones universe and HBO actively working on multiple spinoffs for the last several years, it was clear that more visits to Westeros were on the way. Sure, many fans were ultimately unhappy with the series, especially in its endgame. But there's no doubt that Game of Thrones is a TV series of significant cultural consequence. The doubters, of course, were proved wrong, and Game of Thrones was the most popular prestige show of its era, straddling the heyday of premium cable and the advent of streaming. When Game of Thrones debuted in 2011, it was seen as a massive risk for HBO.

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

The question has been raised of whether the fan excitement is there for that second season, anywhere to the degree of the traditional anticipation for Game of Thrones seasons. Due in part to last year's strikes, House of the Dragon is coming off a long layoff of over 18 months since the first season's finale. The first season of the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon made its debut on HBO and Max in August of 2022, about two and a half years after Game of Thrones wrapped up its groundbreaking run. ‘House of the Dragon’s first season can be streamed on Max. While Alicent enlists Cole and Aemond to track down Aegon, Otto gathers the great houses of Westeros to affirm their allegiance.

And for the younger Aegon, son of Daemon and Rhaenyra, let's go with Aegon the Baeby. Rhaenyra introduces Viserys to the two sons she's had with Daemon that he hasn't met yet — toddler Aegon (who looks suitably creeped out by the leering demilich Viserys has become) and young infant Viserys. Which is not to diminish the good, hard work the actors are doing here — Olivia Cooke lets us glimpse the rage and shame roiling just under Alicent's outward composure. Watching her, we can see how many times she's been put in this situation before, and expects to be put in it again.

Rhaenys considers the offer, but doesn't tip her hand, because, again, she's awesome like that. Daemon tries to shame Alicent for administering "milk of the poppy" to the king for his pain, but she's not having it. She's the family member who's charged with daily care of the loved one with failing health, and he's the know-it-all brother-in-law who never calls but just breezes in once a year to complain. As for what we're gonna do about having two characters named Viserys running around ... So for the repellent, older Aegon, son of Viserys and Alicent, let's go with Aegon the Aess.

Bunk House Burgers

bunk house burgers

Born from the nation’s obsession with beef coupled with the modern highway system, the humble burger can be high-end or low — grabbed quickly via drive-thru or sought out as a destination. It’s hard to say what makes a perfect burger, simply because there are so many different iterations of the seemingly simple beef and bun device. At Burgette, chef Sean MacDonald serves French takes on the all-American burger. It’s hard to overstate the importance of Tommy’s to the greater LA burger scene.

Comfort food,

Don’t forget to use Bunk House’s rewards card, your ticket to a free burger after eight purchases. Watts’s most beloved meal is at Hawkins, where the loosely-formed beef patties arrive thick and impressive from time well spent on the griddle. This restaurant has stood the test of time and can trace its roots back to 1939.

Griddled corn cake served with Peruvian slaw & a lime wedge

Served tall with plenty of aged cheddar and Thousand Island sauce, this is an enduring burger that deserves its own shine. Plan to grab lunch at Bunk House Burgers after you visit the Backyard Storage Supercenter, located at Colorado Shed Company. With over 50 backyard sheds on display, we have a large variety of sheds for you to walk through and find your perfect backyard storage solution. With your purchase of a burger at Bunk House, you will find their most famous side, Spud Shavings, a perfect complement to the meal. Choose a fountain drink or iced tea from the “stock tank” portion of the menu or a hand-blended shake or malt from the dessert menu.

When is Bunk House Burgers open?

Lowboy may be known first and foremost as a bar, but it's the burger at this Echo Park neighborhood hang that makes it such a standout. Yet here is the Father’s Office burger, a no-ketchup-allowed option served on a split roll and topped with caramelized onions and lots of arugula. This massive sandwich uses dry-aged beef and Maytag blue cheese for a remarkably different kind of burger. The burger isn’t on Yang’s regular menu, but it is worth seeking out at one of the restaurant’s burger nights.

Popular Lunch,

For the legacy picks that have shaped the burger ecosystem, look to Eater’s list of essential LA burgers here. Pasadena claims to be the birthplace of the cheeseburger, and while the truth of such things is lost to history, there is no denying the enduring prominence of Pie ‘n Burger. A legend since 1963, this diner turned ode to all things burger continues to turn out impeccable California classics, complete with special sauce and lightly melted American cheese. On any given day, at either of its locations, the burger at Goldburger is the same great smash burger.

This thick, peppery, smoked burger is the toast of the town right now, in part because it serves as an antidote to so much smash burger fascination. Served with raw white onions and pickles to cut through the fat, this is undoubtedly the burger of the moment. South Bay burger fans can find one of LA’s best burgers at Proudly Serving’s permanent location in Hermosa Beach. In addition to the Proudly Serving double smash burger, find a pastrami burger, a brunch burger, and more, on the menu. In the land of smash burger ubiquity, it’s nice to see native son Alvin Cailan return to LA with a thick pub-style burger at Amboy Quality Meats and Delicious Burgers, tucked inside the former Chinatown home of Chego. The shop is always rotating through other styles, so expect something new and worthwhile just about every single day.

The burger is simple but delicious, with just a thick patty, caramelized onions, and melted Gruyere cheese on a brioche bun. While Easy Street isn’t new to Los Angeles, its burgers are having a moment after a visit and stellar review from TikToker Keith Lee. The burger at Easy Street is a classic smash burger with crispy edges that extend past the bun, melted cheese, and grilled onions. It’s hard to imagine the burger at Moo’s Craft Barbecue being the most talked-about item at the moment, but it’s true.

North American

While smash burgers seem to be all the rage in LA, the cheeseburger at Yang’s is unapologetically thick. Everything in the burger is handmade, down to the bun which comes from Pine Cone Bake Shop. At legendary Venice dive Hinano Cafe, burgers are griddled right behind the bar.

This Valley staple has drawn diners to Van Nuys since its opening in 1965. The move here is to keep things simple with standard well-griddled singles served with cheese on extra-squishy buns. Just make sure to have cash on hand and some patience, this cash-only establishment often comes with a bit of a wait. The few-frills food is done up in countless ways from the beachy towns of the South Bay to the heart of LA’s culinary movement. It’s no wonder that burgers appear on so many menus across the city. From the old-school burger counters to the walk-up windows, street stands, and sit-down spots that come complete with cloth napkins, here are some of LA’s best burgers.

The Deux Burger is only available on the lunch menu, so plan accordingly. Head to the Arts District for a great burger served on what may be Los Angeles’s best patio. The burger at Everson Royce Bar starts with a single patty of prime beef chuck that’s topped with Tillamook cheddar and Dijonnaise sandwiched between an egg brioche bun. In total the burger clocks in at $11 for a single, which leaves room in the budget for a beer or a cocktail off its extensive bar menu. For a classy French burger in a wine bar, look to Le Champ in the Arts District.

It is consistently served hot and fresh off the grill, and will always satisfy a craving. Attached to the Hotel Normandie in Koreatown, Cassell’s feels like it was plucked out of the 1950s with a lit-up pie cabinet and vintage signage. The burger here leans diner-style with its thick patty and fresh bun served up on a tray with checkerboard paper.

Allegedly, the cheeseburger was invented in Pasadena in 1926 when Lionel Sternberger accidentally dropped some cheese on the grill, and the rest is history. Now, there’s a great burger in practically every neighborhood whether it's a classic old-school cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, or a double smash burger with crispy edges and melted cheese. Here grass-fed New Zealand wagyu beef is served as a default double with onion jam, pickles, and plenty of lettuce. The patties are mustard grilled a la In-N-Out, and adding pastrami is always an option. The Valley’s breezy new French restaurant, Deux Bistro, serves a smash burger alongside a slate of bistro classics like poulet frites and French onion soup. The base of the burger is two smashed patties, topped with homemade pickles, Thousand Island dressing, lettuce, and tomatoes.

Open since 1962, this beachside watering hole still has the same sawdust-covered floor charm after all these years. Order a cheeseburger, which comes with a choice of cheddar or Swiss, and chips on the side. Some of the hottest — and largest — burgers in town come from Billionaire Burger Boyz. Acclaimed Silver Lake vegetable spot Botanica has put “a very Botanica burger” on its menu. The burger starts with sustainably raised grass-fed beef and a locally made pain de mie bun to which herbs, chicories, onions, aioli, mustard, and goat gouda are added.

Menu for Bunk House Burgers in Cañon City, CO

bunk house burgers

Lunch,

Most go to Chubby Curry for the eponymous curry, but the burger on the menu is a must-order. It’s a behemoth of a wagyu burger topped with caramelized onions and sandwiched between a golden brown bun. The best part is that it comes in at $18 for an eight-ounce patty. Here are nine of the hottest new burgers in Los Angeles, from a thick wagyu patty at a Beverly Hills curry shop to an Arts District pop-up adding aji sauce.

BUNK HOUSE BURGERS MENU

Barn Style Sheds

The legendary Route 66 stand has been reborn (and reconstructed almost identically) by longtime chef-owner Sonia Hong and new partner Lawrence Longo. Expect weekend lines for these classic LA burgers, served with a sear but not too thin. The Big Irv comes with pastrami, a hot dog, and more on top. The ample seafood selections rightfully earn the most attention at Connie and Ted’s in West Hollywood, but in-the-know fans also swing through for the hook burger.

Comfort food,

How Virgil Abloh made Off-White the hottest fashion brand in the world

A shoelace on a $700 pair of sneakers with the word “Shoelaces” written on it, in quotes. According to Burke, they haven’t decided on whether Abloh will be succeeded by a new creative director—some have speculated that Abloh protege and A-Cold-Wall creative director Samuel Ross might get the nod, for either Vuitton or Off-White—or a collective of Abloh’s creative collaborators. Some insiders speculated more privately that Off-White might wither without Abloh, a celebrity among celebrity designers, providing the creative center of gravity.

Express Takes A Detour Into Bankruptcy Closing Over 100 Stores

In that conversation, he was also referring to the challenge of making an Off-White suitcase in collaboration with the 120-year-old German luxury luggage brand Rimowa (majority-owned by LMVH, which paid $716 million for an 80 percent stake in 2016). That suitcase — priced at $1,700 — was the most popular item among the teenagers who flocked to Hypebeast’s first New York streetwear festival this October. For a collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, Abloh designed a money clip that looks like a credit card. “Don’t let Zara and Uniqlo educate you on the price of a garment because that’s not fashion,” he once said. Your health is tied to that — a 99-cent nugget.” He has also collaborated with McDonald’s.

Collaborations

In March 2024, Express received notification from the New York Stock Exchange indicating that the common stock of the company would be delisted, and trading of its common stock on the NYSE was suspended. In August of 2023, Express planned to lay off about 150 employees through 2024 to save $30 million but that move only represented a portion of the planned $120 million cost reduction effort. The company had taken cost reductions in 2023 and had planned to continue reducing expenses going into 2025. However, by filing for bankruptcy, the company has the opportunity to restructure its operations including renegotiating its many lease agreements that will remain after the closure of some of its stores. The men’s tailoring is sharply done—adult, if you will—but the jackets are distinguished by large circular rings embroidered over the chest pockets. These were apparently inspired by Meccano, the century-old model construction system designed by the English inventor Frank Hornby that might’ve prompted Abloh’s pursuit of architecture later on.

Loses Mounted As Sales Dwindled

Effective immediately, Express named Mark Still as its new CFO. Express’ revenue dropped 40% in 2020 due to the pandemic mandating non-essential stores to close, equating to over $800 million in sales losses for the year. Express, a multi-brand fashion retailer whose portfolio includes Express Express , Bonobos, and UpWest, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and intends to close more than 100 stores. The move, according to the company, is to better position Express for stronger growth in the future.

In 2002, at only 22 years old, Virgil Abloh became Kanye West’s right-hand man, with his roles extending from merchandising to album artwork to set design. In 2009, Virgil Abloh interned at the fashion house Fendi in Rome, and soon decided to launch a concept store in his native Chicago alongside Don C, co-manager of Kanye West. Named RSVP Gallery, this concept store with green neon lights offered an exclusive selection of the hottest street designers and vintage couture pieces, and soon became a landmark for those in the know in Chicago. Virgil Abloh launched his first label, Pyrex Vision, in 2012, which saw Champion t-shirts and Ralph Lauren shirts printed with the Pyrex 23 logo. The brand soon gained popularity, inviting a creative crowd from Kanye West to A$AP Rocky to design exclusive capsule collections. From its beginnings, Pyrex was sold alongside the big fashion houses, in the most influential concept stores, including Colette in Paris, Union in Los Angeles, GR8 in Tokyo and Storm in Copenhagen.

WHP Global is a company that has brought back many legendary brands and has a knack for providing brands with a clear focus and vision for success and expansion. At the same time, he still stands by stylist Ian Connor, a hip-hop staple who has been accused of rape more than 20 times. In a 2017 W profile that declared Abloh “King of Social Media Superinfluencers,” he named Connor as part of “inner circle,” alongside A$AP Mob’s creative director A$AP Bari, who has also been accused of sexual assault (video evidence leaked on Reddit just before he was arrested) and with whom Nike cut ties last year. Rihanna came to his Paris debut; Playboi Carti and Kid Cudi were models in it. Off–White can definitely do more to make its products accessible to the very individuals that it draws inspiration from. This is not to say, however, that it has not taken any strides in the interest of democratizing fashion.

The Success of Off–White Is Anything But Ironic

As well as opening the Paris store, the label recently announced the launch of its new kidswear line. The new store is open now, and Off-White™’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection will arrive in the flagship immediately after it is unveiled in Paris on July 4. “I’m living a 3-D, real-life version of the kind of cross-communication that happens all the time—in the sights and sounds and smells that go along with being a citizen of the globe,” he says.

The idea that Off-White might become Dior in a generation or two, with designers fighting over creative directorships and continuing Abloh’s tradition of off-the-wall collaborations, is intriguing. But after today’s show, it’s hard to imagine Off-White will ever fade away. Besides a few bags which bore tiny Off-White badges, the collection’s message was in its clean proportions. Abloh’s tailoring at Vuitton was maximalist and complex; at Off-White, the way forward appears to be in classicism.

The hottest fashion brand in the world was built on irony and $1,000 sweatshirts

In 2017, Off-White partnered with Nike to redesign 10 of the company’s best-selling and classic styles. There are basically no words for how popular and how difficult to purchase this line of sneakers has been. Though the starting price points were around $200, most available pairs seemed to end up in the hands of celebrities, and resale prices now hover north of $1,000. As perplexing as it was when kids lined up and paid $1,000-plus to buy a literal brick released by Supreme two years ago, at least it was clear that it was in some ways a joke. It’s extremely expensive streetwear — primarily T-shirts and hoodies and sneakers — beloved by the teenagers of Reddit, the rich club kids of New York and Milan, the pop stars and rappers in every magazine and on every social media feed, and much of the high-fashion elite, including Abloh’s day-one fan Marc Jacobs.

A three-button herringbone topcoat and beautiful brown gingham belted blazer looked so simple and refined one could imagine a white-haired Loro Piana client sneaking into an Off-White boutique to try them on. (Before promptly removing the bright blue leather sleeve label.) Even the technical outerwear, like several bulbous down ski jackets in muted tones, were constructed with sleek suiting canvas. A few tartan shirt-skirt-trouser sets, on the other hand, were made with technical wool. Abloh explored a fascination with elegant, fluid tailoring in his final years, calling for a “human” approach to dressing rather than one defined by gender.

Whether or not he oversaw the design of these sets, he deserves credit for making the men’s sartorial skirt feel about as practical and intriguing as just about any designer. Led by Bella Hadid in a minuscule electric-blue sheath dress, the cast of friends included Honey Dijon, Alton Mason, Joan Smalls, Amber Valletta, and Georgina Grenville. Time spent backstage inspecting the clothes—a wildly fresh experience after so long spent peering at garments through screens—showed the ultra-sophisticated precision tailoring of leather ( a cream skirt-suit; a pair of ice-blue and lavender coats) and a whole new approach to stamping Off-White’s identity through graphics. Abloh’s unmistakable cross-and-arrow logo—globally identifiable on Off-White hoodies on any street—is now minimized in a black and white logo print; a print knowingly set to compete on a level with that of any establishment Parisian fashion house.

This particular line sought to expand Off White’s target market and revive the diffusion line for streetwear. The space has been designed and developed alongside AMO, the think-tank arm of renowned architecture firm OMA. Throughout the store, various spaces feature various influences, with sections including a courtyard, a market, a gallery, and a stage that extends over three floors. Each room has been designed to reflect the diverse background and identity of Off-White™. “To be fair,” Castro told me. “Off-White does have some fire items.” It’s true.

Movie Site Now Playing

the house with a clock in its walls

It is free to visit the grounds though occasionally the opportunity will become available to tour the inside for a fee. You can read about my visit here in my post on Greystone Mansion. The movie is technically well made, but its story is uneven in parts. It's young-kid friendly one moment and then unsettling the next.

Famous TV and Movie Houses in Los Angeles

the house with a clock in its walls

The Doheny Mansion is on the Doheny campus of Mount St. Mary's College at 10 Chester Place, just south of downtown LA. It's in the South Adams area, which is full of more beautiful, classic mansions. This house's most outstanding feature is the lavish use of ceramic tile, produced by the famous Malibu Potteries. Black co-headlines the film with Cate Blanchett—who plays Mrs. Zimmerman, Jonathan's spinster neighbor—another actor known for her vamping.

More Reviews by Witney Seibold

The house is owned by the MAK Center, which also runs the Schindler House and you'll find details about the tours at the MAK Center website. Director Eli Roth's first foray into family-friendly movies isn't a masterpiece, but it's just spooky and funny enough to entertain young moviegoers who are new to the horror genre. Black and Blanchett are an amusing pair, trading barbs, bickering, and working together to keep Lewis safe.

The Gamble House in Pasadena is one of my favorite homes to visit. It is filled with fascinating details and a tour is well worth your time. I recommend visiting The Gamble House to admire the architecture and history as much as I recommend visiting it as a filming location.

The complex includes the main house, garage, and one other surviving structure. This International style residence predates the mid-century modern styles that followed it, but it feels like it could have been part of the case study movement of the late 1940s and 1950s. According to the Los Angeles Times, this house was newly built but the owner hadn't yet moved into it because of construction on the Ventura Freeway, which now runs behind it. If you're a real fan, you may notice that this home looks shorter than the one in The Brady Bunch shows.

You used to be able to tour the house but now the new owners only make it available to the public during special events. This is the only Neutra designed home that is available for tours. It is called the research house because it was built with a loan from a patron. A fire destroyed most of the house in 1963 and was rebuilt by Neutra’s son with the Dad’s oversight. Schindler came to California to work for Frank Lloyd Wright and supervise construction of the Hollyhock House. Today it's open as a museum, located in Malibu Lagoon State Park and open to the public for guided tours.

You can read more about my visits to the Gamble House here. There are so many incredible famous houses in Los Angeles. Some of the houses are famous because of the architecture while others are famous for being used in movies and tv shows.

Upcoming Fantasy movies

The craftsman-style house is located near downtown Long Beach. North of Long Beach in San Pedro you can find the spot that was used for the school Anchor Beach on the series which you can read about in this post. The house from Young Sheldon is not in Texas, it is a short drive from the Warner Bros Studio where the tv series is filmed. If you take the Warner Bros Studio Tour you might get to see some places in the backlots where the show has been filmed but they never open up the sets in the soundstages for viewing. However, if you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory (and old Sheldon) you can see Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment and even sit in Sheldon’s spot. You cannot see the Boy Meets World house from the street.

It housed his office and two families on a small 60 x 70-foot lot. When ten-year-old Lewis is suddenly orphaned, he is sent to live with his Uncle Jonathan in a creaky (and creepy) old mansion with a mysterious ticking noise that emanates from the walls. The Brothers & Sisters house is the home of Nora Walker (Sally Field) in the ABC series. It's located in a lovely Pasadena neighborhood at 1640 Lombardy Road, near the Langham Huntington Hotel.

The Brady Bunch house is located at Dilling Street in North Hollywood. The Gilmore Girls House is located on the Warner Bros Lot and can be seen on the studio tour as long as they are not filming in that area. Your best chance to see it is on the weekends when little to no filming is happening. For the last two Christmases, the studio has decorated the home for the holidays which has been incredible to see. This house is within walking distance from Fox Studios where the show was filmed so that worked out well for them.

Robinson’s department store when they started living in this mansion. The Eames House, also known as case study #8, is mid-20th century modern architecture. The house was designed by the couple Ray and Charles Eames to serve as their home and studio. Free street parking is available on Corona Del Mar which is a five-minute walk from the house. Self-guided walking tours of the exterior of Heritage Square Museum homes are currently available. I came here during the 2019 Museum of the Arroyo Day and really enjoyed it.

When he laments that Tarby does not see him as a friend, she suggests that he use a spell from a forbidden book to impress Tarby. On Halloween night, Lewis performs a necromancy spell in a cemetery, accidentally summoning a corpse of Isaac from his grave. The Thompson residence in the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street is located in Hollywood at 1428 Genessee Avenue.

That was epic and a long time dream of mine to see inside this historic lloyd wright house. He also designed one of my favorite places in LA, the Wayfarers Chapel. The Derby House was built for businessman James Derby, though due to a separation with his wife he would never live here. The textile blocks are supposed to help keep the interior bright. From the photos that I have seen online the inside looks really interesting. After architect Rudolph Schindler came to California in the 1920s to oversee construction of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House, he designed his residence in West Hollywood.

So when a friend of mine posted a picture of this house I knew I had to see it in person. It was a very short drive from Casa Walsh and was close to Eaton Canyon where I was hiking later that day. This house is picturesque and has a fabulous fairytale vibe to it. This list will continue to be updated as I visit more filming locations. Be sure to check back to see what else gets added to this list. The Hollyhock House was designed by Frank Llyod Wright for Aline Barnsdall though she quickly became disillusioned with the home and donated it to the city of LA.

An entertaining PG detour for gore maestro Eli Roth, The House with a Clock in Its Walls is a family-friendly blend of humor and horror with an infectious sense of fun. Using the Magic 8-Ball to learn the location of the clock underneath the boiler room, the three return. Florence defeats a snake guarding the room while the others pursue Isaac. The clock transforms Jonathan into a baby, except for his face which he'd shielded with cards.

Will Rogers was a popular actor in the early days of Hollywood. In the 1920’s he bought land in Santa Monica and his 359 acres included some land that would later become part of Pacific Palisades. In the 1940s his wife, Betty left their 31 room ranch and the land to the California State Parks. Roth otherwise fails to get his actors to perform in the same scene.
